Sign-Up Process for Advocates

Download IEC Materials
1. Access Portal
  • Navigate to https://jams.court.go.ke.
  • Click Sign Up and select "Sign Up as Advocate".
2. Submit Documents via Email
  • Send scanned National ID, Certificate of Admission, and contact details as prompted by the system.
3. Pre-Registration
  • Advocates Section reviews details; confirmation email sent once pre-registered.
4. Account Creation
  • You will Receive an OTP via email and SMS to enable and complete the sign-up process.
5. Verification and Login
  • Following final verification, receive an approval email or SMS to log in to JAMS.

Verification & Validation

  • Practice Certificate: Verification of current year practicing status.
  • Certificate of Admission: Validation of entry into the Roll of Advocates.
2. Notary Public Services
  • Notary Authentication Certificate: Confirming validity of notarized signatures.
  • Annual Notary Renewal: Checking current status of notary appointments.
  • Notaries Public: Search within the official Notary registry.
3. Oaths & Petitions
  • Commissioner for Oaths: Verify authorization status for administering oaths.
  • Admitted Advocate Petition: Real-time tracking of advocate admission petitions.

Authentication of Notarized Documents

Download IEC Materials
1. Submission
  • Client submits documents to the Notary Public for notarization.
2. JAMS Application
  • Notary logs in and clicks “Apply for Authentication Letter”.
NB: Feature active only for Notaries with annual PC and appointment renewal. Email Advocates Section advocatessection@court.go.ke if feature is missing.
3. Scanning and Uploads
  • Notary Public scans and uploads the notarized documents (clearly showing the notarys seal the advocates stamp and signature) for authentication.
4. Verification of Documents
  • If the request for authentication is declined for any reason, the Advocate is notified via the email and SMS with the reason for the decline.
  • b. If the request is accepted, the Advocates Section generates a Letter of Authentication of Signature which is sent to the Notary’s e-mail and is also available for download from the Notary Public’s JAMS account.

Appointment of Advocates as Commissioner for Oaths

1. JAMS Application
  • Select ‘Apply for Commissioner for Oaths’ and upload PDF of: Petition, 2 Advocate Certificates (with PCs), 2 Stakeholder Certificates, 3 years PCs, and Statutory Declaration.
NB: Feature active for advocates with 3+ years practice. Contact advocatessection@court.go.ke if requirements met but feature is hidden.
2. Review & LSK Transmission
  • Advocates Section verifies compliance which are transmitted to LSK for comments.
3. Advocates Section reviews and verifies the application for compliance.
  • If the application is non-compliant, the same will be declined and the advocate will be notified.
  • If the application is compliant, JAMS will transmit it to LSK for further review.
4. LSK gives comments on the application.
  • Where the application is declined, the advocate is notified through an email.
  • If accepted, the CJ issues a signed commission for appointment as a Commissioner for Oaths.
5.The Applicant’s name is entered in the Roll of Commissioners for Oaths and the applicant is notified of a date to appear before a Deputy Registrar for signing of the Roll.

Appointment of Advocates as Notaries Public

  • Upload Petition, 2 Advocate Certificates (with PCs), and Statutory Declaration (PDF).
NB: Feature active for advocates with 5+ years practice. Contact Advocates Section if requirements met but feature is hidden.
2. LSK & CJ Review
  • LSK reviews; if accepted, CJ issues a digitally signed instrument of appointment.
3. Fees & signing
  • Pay fees, sign the Roll before a Deputy Registrar, and receive a digital Certificate of Enrolment.

Annual Renewal of Notary Certificates

Download IEC Materials
Qualification

Must have a current year Practising Certificate before renewal.

Fees

KSh 500 payable for annual renewal of Notary Certificates.

Renewal Process
  • Log in to JAMS Portal and click ‘Apply for notary renewal.’
  • Advocates Section reviews for compliance.
  • If Compliant: Receive system-generated invoice & pay.
  • Issuance: System generates annual renewal certificate.
  • Certificate sent via email and available in portal:
NB: Feature active only for appointed Notaries. If missing from your portal, contact advocatessection@court.go.ke to update your account.
The Process takes one working day from application to issuance
